Local Laws
The following Westmoreland County laws apply specifically to Placid Bay Residents, but not the entire County.

Sec. 30-1. - Shooting firearms or gas-operated or air-operated weapons in certain areas.
(a) The shooting of firearms or air-operated or gas-operated weapons in the areas in the county designated below is considered dangerous to the inhabitants thereof and is hereby prohibited:
Placid Bay Estates Subdivision and within 50 yards thereof.
(b) This section shall not prohibit shooting by any individual in the lawful protection of his life or property or by any law enforcement officer in the performance of his assigned duties.
(c) The firing of firearms for the killing of deer pursuant to Code of Virginia, § 29.1-529 on land of at least five acres that is zoned for agricultural use shall be exempt from the prohibitions of this section.
(d) Any person who shall violate any provision of this section shall be guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.
Sec. 10-41. - Running at large in specified subdivisions.
(a) All dogs kept, housed, penned or whose situs is otherwise regularly or periodically within the confines of the following subdivisions within the county are hereby prohibited from running at large:
Placid Bay Estates Subdivision.
(b) For the purpose of this section, a dog shall be deemed to run at large while roaming, running or self-hunting off the property of its owner or custodian and not under its owner's or custodian's immediate control; provided, however, that no dog whose normal situs is outside a subdivision listed in subsection (a) of this section, nor any dog engaged in lawful hunting beyond the confines of such a subdivision that shall thereafter stray within such confines, shall be deemed to run at large, provided that the owner or custodian shall place such dog under his immediate control within a reasonable time after knowledge thereof.
(c) It shall be unlawful for the owner or custodian of a dog to permit the dog to run at large in violation of this section.
Sec. 26-154. - Operation of golf carts in Placid Bay Estates Community.
(a) The operation of golf carts shall be permitted within the public streets and rights-of-way of the Placid Bay Estates community. Such operations shall be limited to public streets and rights-of-way that are posted with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less. The operation of golf carts shall not be permitted on any street located outside of this community.
